Significance of Kaushiki Amavasya

Kaushiki Amavasya has its own significance for it says that by means of hard penancs and meditation one could get unexpected results. The meditation wins over the Kulakundalini Chakra. It is also called ‘Tara Ratri’ for the door of the Hell And the Heaven opens for the time being and the meditation could choose any of the doors and by means this power of meditation absorbs himself in its Positive or negative force and attains salvation.

It is described in the Maha Saraswati story in Chandi that the two Monsters Shumbha and Nishumbha Satisfied Brahma by means of devoted meditation and got the blessing that no man but woman who was not born from her mother’s womb could kill them which seemed next to impossible.

Goddess Parvati in her previous birth sacrificed her life in the place of Yajna at her father Dakshas residence due to which in her next birth she had Very black complexion and Lord Shiva called her Kalika.

Once when all the Gods and Goddess being troubled by the Monsters took refuge in Kailash, Shiva called her by the same name and she felt so much insulted the she started hard penance beside Manas Sarovar

Having completed it she took bath in the Manas Sarovar and all her black complexion was washed up and she got a bright and very fair complexion; and from those particles born Goddess Kaushiki who killed Shumbha and Nishumbha.

Thus; it named ‘Kaushiki Amavasya
